Shiratori Ryushi's dream is to become a picture book writer, and so he decides to move into Narutaki-So, an old-style Japanese apartment, in order to attend an art school in Tokyo. However, Narutaki-so is a bit out of place in the urban landscape. This apartment is owned by his mother's cousin and managed by his second cousin, Aoba Kozue, whom he vaguely remembers from their childhood. Kozue is in her second year of high school, attached to Aoba Junior College.
There are five other residents in Narutaki-So, each with their own eccentricity. Chanohata Kotomi, Kozue's best friend, lives in room #1. Room #3 is occupied by Momono Megumi, who has a tendency to do things her own way. Kurosaki Sayoko and her daughter, Asami, live in room #5. Asami is in her first year of junior high. Finally, Haibara Yukio lives in room #6 with his puppet, "Johnny."
Despite the interesting characters in Narutaki-So, Kozue is by far the most eccentric, as she has a mysterious personality change when she is shocked. Shiratori knows nothing of this, but decides to chase his dreams and moves in anyway. What kind of adventure awaits him in this new living situation?
