In 1941, Kuramoto Soutaro returns to Japan from living overseas. He hopes to reunite with his childhood friend, Asuma Haruomi, who has become a famous dancer in the Tokyo pleasure district. Despite their estrangement, Soutaro adores Haruomi and wishes to apologize to him. To see Haruomi dance and make amends, Soutaro disguises himself and secures a job as a servant at the upscale restaurant, Tachibana, where Haruomi performs on occasion.
