Bom Ahn had a strong start to her writing career by winning a major award for her debut novel. However, for the next nine years, she struggled with countless rejections from over a hundred publishers and could not establish long-term success. In contrast, Bom's childhood friend, Leo, became a highly renowned author during this time. Eventually, Bom applied for a position at SW Publishing Company where she encountered Haneul, an efficient but detached department head who had a distinctive condition preventing him from recognizing women's faces.
