Detective Ukishima's fascination with life-and-death situations began in adolescence and has since escalated. His vulnerability is exploited during a sexual encounter with a stranger named Makabe, heightening his obsession. Ukishima intends for the incident to be a one-time occurrence, but he is surprised to learn that Makabe is a suspect in his ongoing investigation. After some initial hesitation, Makabe agrees to cooperate with the investigation, but he also makes it clear that he wishes to maintain their relationship.
