Yato, a youthful theologian who is visually impaired, sets off on a quest to better himself and one of his primary objectives is to regain his sight. He learns about a mythical lake situated in a cave, rumored to possess healing powers for any affliction, and sets out to locate it. Along the way, he encounters Garo, a female Kirite, a bat-like race member in exile. Garo aids Yato on his journey and their bond deepens as they develop a cross-species relationship that provides comfort to them both.
