Amane resides with his mother in a petite village and considers himself a regular boy. However, he possesses a one-of-a-kind ability that sets him apart from others. By touching any person or animal with his uncovered hands, Amane hears their inner voice. When his friends uncover his skill, they spread malicious gossip of his monstrous ways. To escape the unjust rumors, Amane and his mother flee to the forest. Though they hope for a cure, Amane's ability persists for many years and takes a toll on his mother's health.
