At the age of 12, Himeko Hanatsuka became engaged to the 30-year-old Bunji Tsuchiya during the Taisho Era, a time of new and foreign influences in Japan. With the changing cultural landscape came a flurry of emotions and uncertainty, but through it all, Himeko and Bunji affectionately referred to each other as "Bunji-sama" and "Fiancée-dono," forging a deep bond that ultimately overcame their 18-year age difference.
