Due to her fear of being sold to the nobles, Isabel was forced to wed the monstrous Duke Cardiego. Desperate, she turned to her childhood friend Ricks and implored him to marry her in order to avoid this fate. However, when Ricks questioned her hatred for the Duke, Isabel confessed that she couldn't endure his tyranny, where even minor mistakes were punishable by death.
Days later, when the Duke made a rare appearance at the temple, Isabel was stunned to discover Ricks' hidden identity. He proposed to her citing that he fulfilled all of the attributes of her ideal man - tall, attractive, and smelling of soap. Although surprised by Ricks' change, Isabel couldn't deny their marriage.
As they began their life together, Isabel tried to persuade Ricks to relax but was met with a shrug and a wry smile. "You were just talking to me, but now I am your spouse," he said, leaving Isabel no choice but to accept her situation.
