Ikeda has taken inspiration from a 10th-century Japanese folk tale and transformed it into a Manga Classic Literature series version of the bamboo cutter's story. The old bamboo cutter discovers an infant in a shiny plant in the original tale. This infant grows up to become Princess Kaguya (Kaguya Hime), who is renowned for her exceptional beauty.
