In the midst of his middle age, a man sets off to the mountains with the intent of ending his life. Along the way, his path intersects with that of a youkai black fox girl, who is trapped and concealed in a small cavern. Upon hearing her desperate plea for liberation, the man frees her from her confines before proceeding with his plan to end his life. Despite her original intentions, the fox girl perseveres in persuading the man to abandon his suicidal thoughts, and over time they ultimately become married. Subsequent events in the tale explore the life of this improbable couple as they move forward together in wedded bliss.
