The Rows of Cherry Trees by Takahashi Makoto has been around for a while. It was published back in 1957 and focuses on three individuals who are part of the table tennis club in an all-girls school. The narrative kicks off with the school-based competition where Yukiko competes against her enemy and then her admirer.
