The series Under Grand Hotel (2013) follows the story of prisoners trapped in a United States penitentiary called The Underground Hotel, located 30 meters below ground. The life in this prison is devoid of sunlight, earning it the nickname The Under Grand Hotel by its inhabitants. The leader of the prisoners, Erie, is obsessed with pleasure-seeking sex, and his attention is always on one particular man - Norman. Norman struggles with trauma and continuously hurts himself, but he finds care in the form of a doctor named Van. Erie's feelings towards Norman turn into a strange mix of love and hate. The story follows these intertwined emotions in this closed-off world, as created by storyteller Sadahiro Mika.
In the second volume, Erie is sent to level 4 of UGH, where he reunites with an old acquaintance.
