Those who are impoverished reside in the Fields.
Those even lower seek refuge in the dense and gloomy Forest.
In the Fields, Kiyoko provides support for her mother by managing food preparation as a showgirl at Takaoku Restaurant. One day, Tanaka, a regular customer who hires laborers for underground work, asks Kiyoko to supply meals for Yorukumo, an assassin known as "Night Spider" from the Forest.
Yorukumo, a child raised in the Forest without feelings, invulnerable to physical pain, and lacking in reading and writing ability, carries out Tanaka's orders without difficulty.
When Kiyoko and Yorukumo's paths cross, their reality begins to unravel.
