Having been raised in a harmonious setting at a thriving restaurant in Japan, Chiyo and Akehiko, both fifteen years old, enjoy a secure and blissful existence. Despite living in challenging times where violence dominates the streets of 19th-century Japan, the boys train diligently at their local dojo, as was customary during feudal Japan, with the aim of achieving strength. In such an unpredictable era, they must comprehend the weighty responsibility that comes with wielding a sword, taking another's life, and the perilous nature of living and dying by the sword.
