In 2205, a group called the "Historical Revisionists" has emerged, seeking to alter the past. To prevent this, the Time Government sends Saniwa back in time, who awaken the tsukumogami, Touken Danshi, residing in swords. Tasked with protecting history, they bravely fight in battles. In this story, Saniwa orders a new sortie and assigns a formation with Hachisuka Kotetsu as captain, along with Kashuu Kiyomitsu, Yamatonokami Yasusada, Izuminokami Kanesada, Horikawa Kunihiro, and Nagasone Kotetsu, with whom Hachisuka Kotetsu doesn't get along as it is a forgery.
The story takes place in 1864 during the first year of the Genji era. The Shinsengumi is the target of the Historical Revisionists. Kashuu Kiyomitsu and Yamatonokami Yasusada were Okita Souji's swords, Izuminokami Kanesada and Horikawa Kunihiro were Hijikata Toshizo's swords, and Nagasone Kotetsu was Kondo Isami's sword. The Touken Danshi waver when they see their previous masters, but they must fight the History Retrograde army, who are under the control of the Historical Revisionists. Yamatonokami Yasusada's intentions remain unclear as the goal of the History Retrograde Army remains unknown.
