In 1982, Tomoi Hisatsugu left Japan to work as a doctor in New York City. However, his intentions were not solely career-oriented. He sought to find greater acceptance and ease as a young homosexual man. His wish was granted when he met Richard Stein, another doctor, and they embarked on a romantic relationship. Nemureru Mori no Binan realistically depicts the challenges and experiences of their love story, as well as the secretive and oppressive environment that the LGBTQ+ community faced during the early 1980s.
